Using A Level To Check Joist

Long levels like these can be used to check for uneven floor joist in your floor framing, before applying the plywood sheeting. Simply place the level perpendicular to the floor joist as shown in the picture above and start looking for high or low floor joist.

The high joist can be planed to down with an electric planer and a low joist can be built up using wood shims or by nailing another floor joist onto one side of the existing joist that's low, to raise it up.
